"I follow the child's lead, while still staying in control of
the lesson. Learning is a two way street, that we drive down together!"

"I make learning fun, and I have a way of bringing even the most boring topic to life, and engaging my students."

"I give breaks when students are frustrated or are overwhelmed by a difficult subject."

About Ms. Scacco:  Ms. Scacco has a Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling and has taught as a Special Education Teacher in California. She has over 10 years of clinical counseling experience with youth with Autism and other developmental disabilities.  She is experienced with tutoring kids of all levels on the Autism Spectrum, kids with ADHD and learning disabilities.

She has experience with preschool, elementary, middle and high school children. She also has over 5 years experience working as a Behavior Therapist for youth on the Autism Spectrum. This is why she incorporates behavior management techniques into all of her teaching and tutoring sessions.

She excels in the subjects of Writing, (especially grammar and teaching how to write) and Reading Comprehension. She engages kids by getting them to relate to the characters in the books, and ask questions to her students as they read together.

"I have been trained to teach in small steps, and gradually add bigger steps once the child has mastered the lower level content--this reduces anxiety, helps with ADHD and increase student's retention of learning. I understand we all learn differently, and if kids can't learn the way we teach, we must teach the way they learn."

"Reading comprehension involves making the reader care about the lesson in the story, and the characters. This is done by helping the child relate the story to their own lives. I also pause to ask questions as I read together. This creates curiosity and helps to assess comprehension along the way."

"Writing: I am able to elicit details from children, and get them to enjoy writing by creating unique characters or stories, sometimes using pictures and images to boost their imagination. The structure of using an outline helps kids who don't know where to begin, to start writing. I am a great speller and I know the importance of giving sensitive feedback with spelling and grammar mistakes."   -Debbie Scacco, M.S.
